On October 8, Israel and Hamas signed a first-phase agreement under global mediation. The deal stipulated that Hamas would release all living hostages in exchange for the release of thousands of Palestinian prisoners, and Israel would withdraw forces to certain lines within Gaza.
Hostages Freed
On October 13, all 20 remaining living Israeli hostages held in Gaza were released into Red Cross custody, returning to Israeli hands amid emotional reunions.
Prisoner Release
In reciprocity, Israel released over 1,900 Palestinian prisoners — many of whom had long sentences or were held since the onset of hostilities. Some were relocated to Gaza, others to the West Bank or third countries.
Ceasefire Enforced
The ceasefire officially commenced on October 10. Israeli forces began withdrawing to designated lines inside Gaza.
